Alts are what make this game so friggin fun. The freshness of killing different things in different ways for different reasons has been my main pursuit this week in the attempt to recapture and then cage my personal fun. Although none of you probably give two shits about my mage, Ima be posting about him on this thread till one of you deletes my thread. My diary threw himself in front of a fire blast last night so now you guys get to hear about it. My current alt of choice is my BE mage that I play with Daylin's BE 'lock on a PvP server. In the 14 hours I've logged so far on the char Daylin and I have hit lvl 17 (halfway to 18, and daylin has like 5 bars) and chosen professions of tailoring/enchating and herb/alchemy respectively. He actually started lvling his, I'm lazy because I hate stopping a quest to go pick herbs. Rather I pick as I go, and then when I reach lvl marks I go back and pick loads all at once. My current mark is to hit 30 over the weekend with Daylin, which I think is well within grasp as we should hit 20-21 by the time we logout Friday night. I'm fire-specced so far although the more I play arsonist the more I wish I'd gone arcanist. I'm already up to 2.6g with three 6-slot bags and one 8-slot bag. I've been giving all of my cloth drops to Daylin for him to lvl tailoring with, but I have yet to see a bag from him. He will pay soon enough.... Daylin has gone affliction hardcore and has even done out-of-game research for his char looking for macros to make his play easier. Yeah I didn't know he could read either with his face shaped like that. Crazy, huh? As far as the questing goes, we're running smooth for the most part chaining three or four together at a time, and we completed our first escort quest last night. We did have several and I mean in the range of about 6 deaths each on a group of quests killing trolls for quest drops, but it's going rather well. I do have a small problem with pulling too many in a row when Daylin isn't watching. For some reason I die quicker on my mage than I do on my 70 druid... Hmm. Well, that's my update for now, I'll post some more after we hit 30 or so. Yay for altoholism!
I feel ya there buddy! I went and made an undead priest because...I've always wanted one. Then I had flashbacks of leving 15 levels with smite. And I shuddered. Then I had flashbacks of picking up all kinds of armor drops...and everything was ANYTHING but cloth. I shuddered again and promptly deleted the priest. I'll miss his mowhawk though. And his jokes. Le sigh.
Then I made a Tauren Warrior and kicked some ass! I was worried at first about not having my own heals during battle...then I realized that I didn't actually need heals. Because I was a brick shit house (I'm not sure what that means, but I think it conveys the feeling). Or is it shit brick house?
One thing I love is being able to run and smack the snot out of something that's trying to run away. In my experience the only time a caster can do that is with instant cast spells. That only helps if he's near death. Lol, but loaping along with my big Tauren hooves single-mindedly smashing something's face in...it's no wonder they're running away!
Even at level 8.5 I'm already feeling the need for a group and the dynamics therein. Yeah I can take hits like nothing else, but come 2 or more mobs I'm feeling it. Similar to the feeling of being a priest and needing a party not necessarily to heal them but for them to do the fighting for you. In this case I'm the fighter in need of a healer and dps! HA!
Rage. WTF is rage? That was one of my first questions.
What the HELL is battle stance??
Things I'd heard of in passing but never really learned about. I'll have to follow in Daylin's tracks and do some research into warriors! I'm not sure if at level 8 I'm really in need of macros, but I'll be looking for guidence to do with initializing battles, situational abilities, chains of moves for battles from beginning to end. And so forth.
I wish there was some kind of cross-server communication though. I'd like to know if someone on the other server needs me or is doign something fun I can take part in. Maybe we could work up a vent channel?
Update 3/31/2008: Well Daylin and I both hit 20 this weekend. Our plan to hit thirty was toppled by the incessant nagging for a date by my wife and Daylin's need to socialize with his friends outside of his home... pathetic. So we settled for about 4 hours of play on Saturday afternoon and got lvl 20. I now have Pyroblast, Teleport: Silvermoon, Blink, and Conjure Water Rank 3 learned. Yay for useful water again. Hopefully by this weekend we will be thirty so that I can get to try out STV as a PvP hoardie. I lvled herbalism and alchemy up to 100 on Saturday while I waited for Daylin to quit bg'ing. Also bought a full set of 8-slot bags and a stack of teleportation runes so that I can use my new spell to teleport to town to pick up training. I was up to 4.5g but the training and the runes costed quite a bit. So I'm back down to 50 silver. Daylin I believe got his enchanting/tailoring up to about 60. Not too sure, he made me my first set of cloth shoulders though so life is good. We also hit exalted with our first faction grind. Tranquillien. Not that it was much of a grind every quest in the area gave 1k rep or more. Lots of them even gave 3k. Daylin doesn't know it yet, but I found a vendor for rep rewards too. I bought myself a sweetass lvl 19 cloak with 7 stamina which is 5 more than the cloak I had before. So now I have my first rare item. We have a 5 man group quest to complete for a blue staff, but we're waiting on Humbah and T to catch up so we have a tank/healer combo. T thinks he's gonna dps, but he's a gonna heal. Ret pally my ass. The one problem I have with the alt is the server we're on. It's tooooooo small. The frigging AH had one single page of alchemy recipes. One single page of rings. One single page of necklaces. Seems tiny as hell after playing duskwood for so long. I bought a ring though with +4 spell hit giving me a whopping 2.6% increased chance to hit with spells. It's nice as not killing stuff before it gets to me because of resists was getting insanely annoying. I like hitting two buttons and then tab/repeat.
man, I'm so bummin! I want so much to play with you guys over there, but then there's so much I'm trying to get done with Sylly right now that I haven't been able to even roll a toon. I'm working on leveling up leatherworking and it's a be-yotch. LOL! I've gone from 298 to 365 in a week, but man is it a grind at these higher levels. I have to either farm the mats or farm something else that will finance the mats. Either way... Farmer Syll. And now I have ONE 365 pattern but it requires insane mats, so the options are farm til I die to get 5 levels out of it (each set of gloves requires 14 primal air and 10 primal fire. FOURTEEN AND TEN. That's 240 motes. Holy God. Multiply that by five and I'll be farming... lol omg close to 1200 motes) or work on exalted rep for Sha'tar and then Keepers of Time to get recipes at 365 and 370 respectively, which require far fewer mats, but also require the grind time for the rep. sigh. So I'll just have to roll a baby hordie later on and you boys can escort her around or something lol. Don't have too much fun without me. Come visit me on Duskwood. Often. And bring cookies. lol! mwah!
Lol, Syll get yer butt in gear! I can't even stand to farm the one primal water I need to make two primal moonclothes ever 4 days. Can't imagine 14 primal airs. Gee golly.
Azshara IS small. Incredibly so. On the server list Duskwood is listed, astonishingly, as high. While Azshara is Low. You notice it too. I can't remember the last time I saw someone talk in general chat in Silverpine or Tirisfall. Really. The last time I did a who search of those zones I saw 7 other people. It was dumb. Frustrarting too. The only time I could get people to even talk to me through general chat is to tell me to STFU because I was whining so much about there being NO ONE to help on party quests. Then again, I don't think many people quest in Silverpine very much, there's a great lack of quests in the upper teens. Went from having tons of doable quests to having three that were red and orange and kicked my ASS. I fucking hate murlocs. Holy shit.
ANYWAY. A 44 hunter came along eventually and only let me party with him because he wanted me to pick up the money on the dead bodies for him. It worked out because I needed people in that particular area anyway. Then he invited me to his guild. What the hell. Turns out they're pretty cool. Highest level is 51 and there are only 30 or so members in the guild but they're all alts with very experienced mains. SSC gear etc. Older too, no swearing, articulate...yeah. Weird. Nice guys but noooot quite my crowd. I'd hate to leave them as I expect I eventually will. They've been really nice. Hell on...Friday night I think we quested in the Barrens for 6.5 hours. We tore the shit out of that place. And there's still moere quests. They've given me bags and bought be a tabard and gave me like 3 enchants for free (I sent a bunch of green BOEs off though...so I guess I acutally supplied the mats).
Apparently you can keep going in the Barrens into your upper 20s. Which is nice because apparently as soon as the Alliance hits the Redridge Mtns (~level 15) they're in contested territory and have a HORRIBLE time, getting ganked endlessly. Really instills the primal fear Allies have of Hordies. It's nice being in Horde territory up through about 26.
Being a tank is getting more and more fun. When we quested in the barrens the only time I slowed down was to let them drink (HA! Drinks! Sissies!). I attacked as much shit as I could and wiped the table with them...or at least I seemed to. I think they did most of the dps. Learning how to pull aggro during a battle and what move combinations are best for engaging a single target as opposed to several all at once. Getting my rage pumped up as much as I can with...whatever rage-for-health move I have. Put as many high aggro moves on each mob as quickly as I can before the rest of the group inevitably out aggos me. Yep, pallies rule with multiple targets.
Shield bash is cool. I'd had problems early on with clothies as they did pretty good damage from far away. Not much hp but it took some serious strategy to take one down. Shield bash is useful to stop initial fireballs and those inevitable heals mid way through the fight.
Just learned defensive stance not too long ago. I like the way abilities are sequestered to one stance or another. No gouge or hamstring but you get more instand aggro moves. Etc.
As for gear I think I have one gray piece left. Three greens. Mostly whites. I have two quests that will give me two rings, one blue one green. Hopefully I can get those done. Still no shoulders, headpiece, or necklace.
BS/Mining is coming along nicely. Most of the time I can get to any vein I see without too much problem. BS has some nice sharpening stones and a few pieces of copper gear that I can use.
Don't know how Mc got so much gold. I vendor and auction the stuff I can and the most i've seen so far is about 1.7g. The only thing I've bought is a shield and BS training. Hmm..yeah. probably the training.
Blah blah blah. If you've read this far into my post you have far too much time on your hands! lol.
I'm level 18 btw, halfway to 19. Think I'm close enough to Neek and Vendormage that we can quest together.
@Syll: No worries. The alts are for fun anyways. If you do come join us it's cool. If not, no biggy. As for your lw, you might try switching to making drums of battle till 370 and then drums of panic till 375. The mats are much easier. Heavy Knothide Leather and Clefthoof Leather for the battle drums. Fel Hides and Heavy knothide Leather for the drums of panic. The recipes are faction rep rewards from revered with sha'tar and revered with keepers of time I think. We have BE, Undead, and Tauren represented so far if it matters Syll. You're welcome to join us whenever you like or not at all. I understand how much fun it is to have a million things to work on all at once on your main, especially when there is time to do it. @Humbah: Yeah I know Azshara is small, it's just been a LONG time since I've Duskwood was that small. I joined last March, and it was low then bordering on medium some weekends. If you're almost 19 then I think you'll be fine to come play with us. Tonite is PvP night hopefully, but Wednesday we should all meet up and do some group stuff. Maybe hit our first Horde instance. I think it would be fun as hell to try Wailing Caverns. The only time I've ever been was at 60 on Mc when I was skinning things for the blue belt Daylin wanted for a hunter he had at the time. I don't know how I got so much gold either.. I give all my cloth and green boe's to Daylin for his professions and vendor the rest of my stuff. I've trained my herb/alch up to 100 and learned everythign I can so far as spells go. I don't know, maybe just cuz Daylin and I open lots of chests since I always have a helper to clear adds with.
Sadly the mage is being put on hiatus until Daylin finishes lvling his mining/bs. He is quite determined to make himself a blade with which to smite ppl, and has forsaken his 'lock in the effort. For shame. Oh well, I have a new project. Some of you already know, but for those of you that don't Mc respecced to BOOOOOOOMking last night. I have about half the spell damage, crit chance, and mana regen that I had b4 I switched to feral so I shall be very very busy. My highest spell crit since I respecced is a mere 2.6k Starfire. I am most displeased. I currently am using 7 healer pieces as well as 2 green boomkin pieces. Two group quests to do tonite for a staff and a cape. I'll also be gathering the mats for my Windhawk set to bring my total of epics up to 4. I also plan on buying a couple epics from rep factions that I already have at exalted. I will be more than happy to respec back to tank for one or two days each week assuming there is an actual need, but as we do have extra tanks I will typically be farming stuff in owlbear form.
how fun, Mc! I was boomkin for about 3 hours one day and looooooved it! What a blast! I hope you enjoy your new form tremendously and dance for us often! lol! mwah!
Booo, booo on your boomkin!
I'm kidding, lol.
Never really partied with a boomkin except for half a quest in Netherstorm. Never see them either except on Horde-side in BGs. You'll certainly be a thing to behold the way you play characters. Don't really know what the point of this post is...except to say...something.
I wanted to thank everybody who came to help me last night with my group quests. My wife decided it would be healthier for me to spend the rest of the night with her so I didn't get to come back for Sethekk Halls. With my new quest gear from last night I'm sitting 310g away from my goal stats. I think that tonite and tomorrow I will just be doing dailies and pvp to build up the last of my gear. I have decided to forsake the moonstrider boots and moonrage girdle in favor of vindicator's wyrmhide belt and boots for 18k honor and 40 marks apiece. It means I'll be using three greens in pvp and dailies, but as I plan to respec back into unstoppable wrath away from the pve points I'd had in resto things should be running alot smoother. I haven't reinstalled groupcalendar, but assuming that there is a raid scheduled for this weekend some time I would like to go if my stats are up to par. The brooch off of moroes and the staff off of curator have caught my eye.
