Office Hours!

Give me some feedback on this please! I'm thinking of setting up office hours for myself as GM. This may be a bit hasty but I seem to be bombed a lot with stuff lately and haven't even gotten my dailies done in over a week. I'm on in the afternoon so then might be best. If I do that then ppl can send me mail regarding the question and I can get back to them later that evening. I still get time for my stuff and they get the answers they need. If I don't do something I'm going to be up all night after runs with ppl wanting to talk and I love to talk to all of you!

Thanks

you responded on another thread where listra had a poll. This was a separate thread that, along with a handful of other posts from Listra, were for some reason blocked as potential spam. I just found them all there and released them into the forum.

So that thing I typed out is gone? Or just back where it was? Because I thought I was slightly well written and had good points that I might have trouble recalling. GOSH. STOOPID INTRANET.

Oh just found it, had enough time left to edit this post too. Here's what I wrote:

I don't know if you should be the end all be all that people should line up and wait for in the guild. You're the leader, the tie breaker, the inspiration as it were. If people really have problems that need "office hours" then they should really use this forum so it can be discussed. If it's not resolved in forum I think you should have the final say, not the first, last, and only.
Then again, if you have different intentions when it comes to the use of your office hours...I dunno.

So anyway. If people are sending you messages all the time just because you're the GM, I think you should refer them back to the forum where their issues can be discussed with fellow players and officers. If they don't feel the issue got resolved then they can talk to you. If they're sending you messages just because you're super spiffy...well, I think you should..uh. Something.

I feel for you Lis.
I ran a guild in EQ and you start to feel pulled in too many directions at once. How much can one person do?

I think enlisting your officers' help to tackle some of the load is crucial and also learning to just say no to somethings. You can not be everything to everyone, nor everywhere, and still stay yourself. You remember the person we chose to be our fearless leader!?! We all love you.

Tell Hell sounds like where you are now. ;(

Let me know if there's anything I may do to help. ;)

Your Faithful Servant,
~Mantisa

Hmm, not sure if office hours are the entire solution. Might be partially helpful, but they are not the solution. I think alot will be cleared up as a 2nd raid group gets settled with another raid leader. I also think there needs to be some clarification in the rules that Listra is not playing the game as a means to provide herself with more work anymore than the rest of the officers. I can say for certain that even though I'm not getting it as bad as she has recently, I am just about burnt on the game myself. It's no fun for anybody when so many ppl rely on the officers to get thier work done for them. This is where the oncall time can help out, and where a little re-wording in the rules would help out. We have some great team effort from lots of ppl, but unfortunately we have several issues to deal with right now on the officer side that have left several of our officers, myself included entirely burnt out. I would suggest that they set themselves some time to help the guild specifically as I have done, and then find a release for the rest of the time till things settle down. PvP, alts, Crafting, etc... Something not related to the raiding and/or coordination of it. It's not a cop-out. It's what has become necessary to preserve some semblance of patience and understanding. Bricco has gone to his alt, Syll has taken extra days off with her husband, Porche has been working more, Daylin has gone full-on PvP. Our officers are not neglecting issues, but until things settle down, everybody needs to step back and breathe. That way in a couple weeks we can all come back together with a clear head and make some real positive changes. I think that office hours could help, but there is more to it than just that though. They could just end up leaving you more tired than b4. The guild just needs to be patient for a couple weeks, work on gear where they can, and cool down. Too much, too fast like we had and everybody will go crazy.

and again i say yes she needs officer hours as everytime she logs on it seems to be a sign for anyone with a hangnail to come running to her for help and hand holding...needs to stop before she goes into hermit mode and never logs on...
